Like many organisations in Somerset, Betagro began as peat excavators, but later realised there was a ready market for peat products, both in terms of composts and grow-bags and in bulb and other kits.
We were commissioned on various projects such as a mushroom growing kit, compost bags and a brochure displaying the range for sales teams to present around the UK.
In fact most of the products didn't yet exist; so were cobbled real living herbs and plants together with bits of cardboard in the back garden and photographed them against garden furniture - Becky's dogs even appear in the background of some shots. Likewise the herbs for the brochure and the mushrooms were bought locally and used in an effort to demonstrate the finished results. The compost bags were distributed through outlets such as Woolworths (RIP) while the mushroom kits were available through major garden centres.
(Marketing types are the worst at
blowing their own trumpets. We know this is a simple website, we have
it only so we can keep it updated ourselves with little fuss. We spend
the rest of our time selling our clients' businesses, not developing
flash whizz-bang material for ourselves. It doesn't mean we can't, or
that we haven't done so for our own customers. When we get the time
we'll update this website - we have a much cooler one that's been 'under
construction' forever, but frankly, at the moment our business comes by
word of mouth through satisfied and loyal customers. Until we have to,
or until we get snowed in for a week and can't communicate with the
outside world, we're not going to distract ourselves from our core
business and finish it. But one day, we will.)
